Dollar Hits Record High Vs. Peso

The dollar briefly touched a new three-year high against the mark Wednesday and reached an all-time high against the Mexican peso but ended slightly lower in most foreign-exchange dealings.

Traders attributed the retreat to increased U.S.-Japan trade tension and the renewed prospect of rising Japanese interest rates.

Another factor cited was profit-taking in advance of the German unemployment data for February to be released today and U.S. unemployment data to be released Friday.
