Question Is, Does He Tape Playboy’s Channel?
He has a randy radio personality, but shock-jock Howard Stern is just a homebody after all.
Or so he says. After his show, Stern spends time watching his 100-inch television. He even hires someone to come over every day and program his nine VCRs so that he never misses any of his favorite shows.
“If I don’t watch for a day, I feel very uncomfortable,” Stern told TV Guide. “In fact, most of my great radio bits have been born out of sitting and watching TV. It relaxes me so much that I think clearly. If it’s a drug, then not all drugs are bad for you.”
Stern, whose movie “Private Parts” opens Friday, rates his favorite shows as “Larry Sanders,” “Babylon 5,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “Melrose Place,” and “My So-Called Life.”
Loose talk
Nine Inch Nails lead singer Trent Reznor on his offstage habits: “I’m a video game addict. I could have written 15 more records in the amount of time I’ve spent playing ‘Doom.”’
Her Supreme question: Where did our love go?
Mary Wilson turns 53 today.
Maybe she should show up dressed as The Captain
To snare the lead role of Broadway’s “Victor/Victoria” when Julie Andrews leaves June 1, Toni Tennille sent in a 12-minute tape (which cost $40,000) that features her singing five of the show’s songs. “Broadway folks perceive me as the ‘Muskrat Girl,”’ Tennille said. “So I knew it would be tough to be an audition for the role without this tape.”
The sun’ll come out… somewhere over the rainbow
Speaking of Broadway, things get only worse for Joanna Pacitti. The 12-year-old actress, who was fired from the Broadway revival of “Annie,” showed up on Rosie O’Donnell’s television show on Tuesday. But instead of singing “Tomorrow,” the “Annie” theme song, she sang a duet of “Over the Rainbow” with O’Donnell. Seems “Annie” co-producer Roger Hess refused Pacitti permission to use it.
Reading ‘Stones’ is rocky going but well worth it
If you’re having trouble wading through Ursula Hegi’s novel “Stones From the River,” take heart. “It’s not an easy book,” says Oprah Winfrey, “but stay with it.” Hegi’s book has been chosen as the next subject of “Oprah’s Book Club.”
The problem was that she didn’t like being burped
Model Kara Sands has gotten her revenge. Seems Claire Danes, the “Romeo and Juliet” actress for whom actor Matt Damon dumped Sands, has in turn dumped Damon. At the time Damon let her go, Sands was incredulous. “He should be baby-sitting her, not dating her,” she said.
Proposed name: ‘The Way We Always Wanted to Be’
On word that a sequel to the Barbra Streisand-Robert Redford is in the works: “If he goes ahead,” a source told Esquire of Redford, “with all the lighting that he and Streisand use at this point, it’s going to look like the set of ‘Close Encounters.”’
