Fake Mother Gets Life In Child-Stealing Plot

Compiled From Wire Services

A woman accused of faking a pregnancy was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing an acquaintance to claim the woman’s 6-week-old infant as her own.

Kimmi Hardy, 36, showed little emotion Thursday after a jury found her guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and child stealing.

Authorities said Hardy fooled her husband, Robert, with a faked pregnancy and, on Aug. 28, lured Theresa Lynn Lund, 34, to her home and killed her with two gunshots to the head, then passed off Lund’s 6-week-old son, Paul, as her own.

The plot unraveled, authorities said, when Hardy held a baby shower and a guest, realizing the infant was not newborn, called the FBI.

Hardy claimed that she bought a baby boy from two employees of a Florida drug dealer. She accused the dealer of putting the mother’s body in a crawl space at Hardy’s home.
