Itron Lands Order From Missouri Utility
Missouri Gas Energy will install an Itron Inc. metering system, the Kansas City-based utility announced this week.
The system of meter modules will serve 250,000 MGE customers in the Kansas City metropolitan area and another 220,000 customers elsewhere in Missouri.
Initially, the modules will be read from vans cruising MGE’s service territory, but they can also be read using a fixed radio network.
Installation will begin this quarter and last 16 months.
In a separate announcement, Spokane-based Itron said a master agreement has been signed with Pacific Gas & Electric Co.
Although the pact does not call for installation of any Itron equipment immediately, Itron Treasurer Mima Scarpelli said it does allow the company to submit proposals to PG&E, which is one of the largest electric and natural gas utilities in the United States.
Only one other vendor has signed a similar agreement with PG&E, she noted.
