Reese Treated For Cancer
Dodgers Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese is undergoing five weeks of radiation treatment for lung cancer, according to friends.
Reese, 78, who overcame prostate cancer years ago, had a tumor removed from his lung that was malignant, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.
Reese, who also is recovering from a broken hip at his home in Venice, Fla., started radiation treatments a week ago.
“He looks fine, but he’s not real well,” said Buzzie Bavasi, former Dodger general manager, who saw Reese at a veterans committee meeting last week in Tampa. “The radiation is taking a lot out of him, but he seems in good spirits.
Dan Carlson and three relievers combined on a six-hitter Sunday as the San Francisco Giants beat the Seattle Mariners 7-0 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Loser Salomon Torres allowed three runs in three innings.
