Cost Of College License Plates May Go Up
Legislation allowing special license plates for public and private schools in Idaho is headed toward amendment in the House to increase the amount.
The Senate approved legislation allowing special plates, mainly for college and university supporters. They were to cost $35 per year, with $10 going to the Department of Transportation and $25 going to the school on the plate.
The House Transportation and Defense Committee on Monday voted to put the bill out for amendment to increase the amount to $50. After the first year, the college or university involved would get $35 per year.
Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Evan Frasure, R-Pocatello, said the University of Montana and Montana State University generate about $60,000 a year from a similar program.
Frasure said there are 180,000 university alumni in Idaho.
