Harrick, Ucla Agree On Settlement

Compiled From Wire Services

Jim Harrick, fired as UCLA basketball coach for lying about an expense report, has accepted the school’s offer to settle the remaining four years of his contract and will not sue, athletic director Peter Dalis said.

Harrick requested a meeting last week with Dalis and other UCLA officials and basically accepted the offer made by the school a few weeks after his Nov. 6 firing, Dalis said. Harrick will apparently receive his $140,000 base salary for the 1996-97 season as stipulated in his contract in the event of firing, but not the rest of his compensation package - close to $440,000 per year.

Kansas closed its 15-week run at No. 1 as a unanimous selection in the final men’s college basketball poll by The Associated Press.

The Jayhawks (32-1) are the first unanimous No. 1 in a final poll since UNLV in 1991, the year the Runnin’ Rebels fell two wins short of defending their national championship. Utah is No. 2.

Connecticut (30-0) finished No. 1 in The Associated Press women’s basketball poll for the second time in three years and led a top five that was unchanged from last week.
