High-Tech Companies Establish Alliance

From Staff And Wire Reports

Four major high-tech companies on Tuesday announced a joint drive to make it easier for their software products to work together, helping corporations to run their networks of computers more smoothly.

International Business Machines Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc., Oracle Corp. and Netscape Communications Corp. aim to develop common technical standards for developing software that would work across any computer operating system.

The initiative takes aim at archrival Microsoft Corp., by far the dominant maker of operating systems for personal computers.
