Two Bills Reach Senate

From Staff Reports

Two of three bills proposed by North Idahoans were passed out of the Senate State Affairs Committee Wednesday in its final meeting of the session.

The first bill, H30, would have changed the current system used to place candidate names on the ballot.

Kootenai County Clerk Dan English said the existing system, which calls for six different ballots in every county, was confusing and costly.

The bill, which proposed one placement of candidate names per ballot, was killed.

His second proposal, H167, would change the distance that a person could electioneer outside of a polling place from 100 feet to 300 feet, except on private property.

English said this bill would help prevent the gauntlet that Kootenai County voters had to run in last year’s primary.

The bill passed out of the committee and will appear on the Senate floor later this week.

The final bill, which would grant the Clark House a special liquor license, also passed out of committee.

This special legislation would help the Hayden Lake resort gain clients who want to be served cocktails with dinner.
