What ‘Friends’ Like These Really Need Is Anonymity

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

The “Friends” backlash is starting to hit full stride, fears Jennifer Aniston.

“We don’t want to be disliked,” Aniston, who plays Rachel on the hit NBC sitcom, says in the April issue of US magazine.

Case in point: gossip columnist Liz Smith’s recent rant about the cast’s salary negotiations.

“She wrote, ‘Who do those “Friends” think they are? Remember where you were two years ago,’ or something like that,” Aniston said. “And I don’t know why, but that hurt me so much. It was like, ‘Liz! Liz!”’

Of course, the US interview includes the obligatory haircut question. “I mean it’s definitely flattering,” Aniston said of all the attention. “It’s also surreal. It’s like you start to become the haircut.”

Loose talk

Former “Saturday Night Live” player David Spade, on his new sitcom, “Just Shoot Me” (in Entertainment Weekly): “I have to memorize lines, which I’ve never had to do before … That’s my biggest drawback, aside from being talentless.”

And the cake will be served on her best china

Dana Delany turns 41 today.

Not to mention Ellen’s old straight look

Not surprisingly, Aniston’s ‘do is one of InStyle magazine’s “10 Haircuts That Shook the World.” The rest of the list: Louise Brooks’ bob; Veronica Lake’s dip; Jean Seberg’s pixie; Jane Fonda’s shag; Mary Tyler Moore’s flip; Barbara Feldon’s geometric; Pam Grier’s Afro; Farrah Fawcett’s wings, and Sinead O’Connor’s shave.

We hear Kathy Kinney was a close second

Kim Delaney, who plays Detective Diane Russell on “NYPD Blue,” makes her debut today as the TV pitchperson for Revlon’s Ultima II makeup. Says Delaney: “All women want to be pampered, even cops.”

You have to imagine Mimi introduced them

Elsewhere on the painted lady beat, friends report that Drew Carey, star of his self-titled ABC sitcom, plans to wed cosmetology student Elena Mazzucchelli this summer.

He probably thinks he’s still seeing double

Television’s former “Wiseguy,” Ken Wahl, is making time with Shane Barbi, half of the busty calendar star duo the Barbi Twins. Wahl, you may recall, is fresh out of alcohol rehab and faces a March 25 court date for pulling a knife on an L.A. barkeep.

All it really takes to succeed is a little pluck

Martin Short, who made his mark as the geeky Ed Grimley Jr. on “Saturday Night Live” before moving on to such films as “Father of the Bride” and “Mars Attacks,” knows his place in the cinematic world. “What’s great about being a character actor is you know that you can survive forever,” Short says. “It’s not about the gloss on your eyebrows.”
