Chang Triumphs

Michael Chang, appearing on track to win his second consecutive Newsweek Champions Cup title, rolled to a methodical 6-2, 7-5 victory over Marc Rosset in their third-round match. The 5-foot-9 Chang beat the 6-7 Rosset with his usual steady, tenacious game and is the only American left in the field.

In an evening match in the Farm Evert Cup, running concurrently with the men’s tournament, sixth-seeded Irina Spirlea bounced back to upset top-seeded Arantxa Sanchez Vicario 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
