State Sued Over Teen’s Murder
The parents of a slain Rupert teenager have sued the state Department of Correction for failing to adequately supervise the probation of their daughter’s killer.
Earl and Beverly Hunter claim in the damage suit filed in 5th District Court that Corey Hood would never have met their 17-year-old daughter, Wendy, if officials had enforced the terms of his rape conviction probation, which barred him from contact with anyone under 18.
Hood has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the May 1996 slaying. He has also pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of his grandmother, Mae Hood, 74, a month earlier. Both were stabbed to death.
Part of the plea bargain he struck to avoid execution calls for Hood to serve at least 33 years in prison before becoming eligible for parole.
Hood was still under the terms of his 1995 probation for rape while he was working at the Mr. Gas car wash in Rupert and met Wendy Hunter, who was also working there.
