Two Golfers Conquer Winds

Compiled From Wire Services

The stiff, spring winds of south Florida didn’t seem to bother Lee Janzen or Paul Stankowski, who each shot a 5-under-par 67 to share the first-round lead of the Honda Classic in Coral Springs.

Among the five players one stroke back at 68 were Payne Stewart, who played bogey-free in the afternoon, and Colin Montgomerie, who finished his morning round under dark skies and rain that lasted about 30 minutes.

Liselotte Neumann eagled two holes and birdied four for an 8-under-par 64 and a one stroke lead at the Welch’s-Circle K Championship in Tucson, Ariz.

Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum, Idaho shot a 70 and Clarkston’s Robin Walton had a 74.
