Charles Murphy Receives Commendation Medal

Navy Lt. Charles G. Murphy, son of Ronald and Charolyn Murphy of Rathdrum, has received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement while serving at Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron 1, home-based at Naval Air Facility, Misawa, Japan.

Murphy, a 1979 graduate of Central Valley High School in Spokane, serves as the avionics division and maintenance material control officer and supervised the installation of broadcast and display systems into aircraft and helped his squadron attain a mission readiness rate in excess of 93 percent. He joined the Navy in November of 1979.

Michael P. Jordon, son of Thom and Barbara Jordon of Coeur d’Alene, has enlisted in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program as a signals intelligence/electronic warfare operations linguist and will depart for basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Mo., in June.

Jordon, a senior at Lake City High School, enrolled in the concurrent admission program (ConAP), a joint venture of the Army and Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges and is eligible for up to $30,000 toward tuition and preconfirmed admission into the University of Idaho before leaving for basic training.

After basic training, he will attend the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif.

Jeremy M. Young, son of Bob Young of Rathdrum and Shari Lynn of Silverton, has enlisted in the Army as a combat engineer and recently departed to be stationed in Europe.

Young is a 1995 Lakeland High School graduate.
