Robber Kills Convenience Store Clerk
A convenience store clerk was shot to death early Monday during an apparent robbery, police said.
Russell Childers, 27, was slain sometime between 2:45 a.m. and 4:20 a.m., apparently by an assailant wielding a handgun, said police spokesman Lt. Cliff Madison.
Madison said police had no suspects. He said stores such as the 24-hour Plaid Pantry often have surveillance cameras and that police would examine any video tapes that might depict the killing.
The store is located in southwest Portland near Oregon Health Sciences University.
The Plaid Pantry stores offered a $10,000 reward. Company executives described Childers as a model employee.
