Olympic Sports Face Cutbacks
Boxing, wrestling and weightlifting face cutbacks for the Sydney Olympics, according to an IOC memo obtained by the Associated Press.
The document, recently circulated to Olympic officials, appeared to be the first step in determining how the International Olympic Committee would try to squeeze in more sports and more countries while keeping the total number of athletes from soaring far beyond 10,000.
The memo stated weight categories for wrestling and men’s weightlifting each would be reduced from from 10 to eight.
