Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Many of us are using a personal shredder at home to protect vital information such as Social Security and financial account numbers.

When shredding checks or duplicates, one should be sure to feed them in horizontally so that the shredder cuts through the account number rather than a parallel shred with the numbers intact.

Of course, the same should be true with any other papers bearing an account number, such as credit-card duplicates and statements. - E. Sienkiewicz, San Antonio

Dear Heloise: Our kids have many white T-shirts with a logo or other print in front, and when folding laundry, if these shirts are folded with the printed side showing outward, it is easy to find the exact shirt a child wants from a tall stack of folded ones, rather than unfolding each one to find the right print.- Mala Shekar, Missouri City, Texas
