Italian Pianist Returns For Chopin
Benedetto Lupo, the Italian pianist who made his Spokane debut with the Spokane Symphony in 1994, will return to the Opera House tonight to perform Frederic Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the orchestra.
Lupo was the winner of the bronze medal at the 1989 Van Cliburn Competition in Ft. Worth, Texas, and first-place winner of the 1980 Alfred Cortot Competition in Milan and the 1992 Terence Judd Competition in London.
Conductor Fabio Mechetti will lead the symphony in William Schuman’s “American Festival Overture” and in excerpts from Richard Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” and “Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg.”
The concert begins at 8 p.m.; tickets range from $13 to $28 and are available at the symphony box office in the Seafirst Building, 624-1200, and at G&B outlets, 325-SEAT.
