Wolverines Send Notre Dame To Sidelines

Associated Press

Brandun Hughes hit a jumper with 7 seconds left Thursday as Michigan hung on for a 67-66 victory over Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the NIT.

The Irish (16-14) had one last chance, but Admore White’s reverse layup was way off, and the Michigan players crowded the floor as the buzzer sounded. The Irish, making their first postseason appearance since 1992, left the floor with their heads bowed.

This was Michigan’s first road win in the early rounds of the NIT. The Wolverines (22-11) will play Arkansas on Tuesday in the NIT semifinals in New York.

Michigan blew a 15-point lead in the first half, but Robert Traylor kept the Wolverines in the game. He finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Maurice Taylor added 16 and Louis Bullock had 12.
