Nic’s Myrick Pours In Points

North Idaho College’s Shawn Myrick has got his point across at the NJCAA basketball tournament.

Myrick poured in 39 points in Friday’s 112-103 loss to San Jacinto of Pasadena, Texas. In the second half of Thursday’s win over Champlain, Myrick scored 21. That gave him 60 in three halves.

Myrick has scored 19, 29 and 39 in three games for a total of 87. With one game remaining today, Myrick is one point ahead of Connor’s (Okla.) State John Woods as the tourney’s top scorer.

“He was worn out but he still knocked them down” NIC coach Hugh Watson said.

Myrick’s 39 points tied Kenny Goodlow (1987) for third best single game in NIC history.

Myles of pain

It wasn’t easy being Todd Myles the last few days.

First he caught a flu bug. Next came a tender ankle and cramps in his calf muscle. That was followed by dehydration and add in a sprained finger.

“It’s been a rough week,” the NIC freshman point guard said. “Today I was feeling a little better.”

Mirror, mirror

NIC faces Tallassee (Fla.) tonight to determine third and fourth places. Officials might want to turn off the 35-second shot clock. Tallassee is a run-and-run outfit led by speedy guards.

In other words, NIC’s alter ego.

“We’re not satisfied,” Watson said. “Third in the nation is better than fourth. My math isn’t very good but I believe that’s true.”
