Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Can you please tell me if I use large quantities of white vinegar, will it kill the weeds growing in graveled and dirt areas? The poisons on the market are a bit much, but what about vinegar? - Pat Gates, Lake Almanor, Calif.

The good news: Vinegar will kill grass and weeds in unwanted areas. All you need to do is pour some fullstrength vinegar on the grass and in a few days it will be wilted and dead. You may need to keep after the weeds, but I agree with you, natural is better! - Heloise

Dear Heloise: The grooves on my two hoses wore so that I could not attach the sprinkler or sprayer anymore. So I tied that end off and, being very careful, poked holes up and down the hose with a knife. Now I use them as soaker hoses in my gardens. - Kevin Burns, Fulton, Mo.
