Watson Lifts Wv By Colville

Rachelle Watson’s seeing-eye, two-run single spelled the difference Tuesday as West Valley edged visiting Colville 2-0 in a Frontier League fastpitch softball opener between league favorites.
Watson’s single in the third inning glanced off the glove of Colville’s first baseman. WV’s Darcy Sohns pitched a two-hitter; she and Colville starter Tarrah Brown struck out five apiece.
WV and Colville both advanced to state last year and return several all-league players.
In another league opener, Ashley LeGrant had three hits and two RBIs, and Rebecca Triplett added two RBIs as East Valley beat visiting Pullman 14-2.
Baseball B In a season-opening matchup of two of the four teams to tie for last year’s title, Jared Bateman went 3 for 3 with three runs scored as Colville topped visiting West Valley 14-10.
Colville’s Justin Fox added four RBIs. WV’s Dustin Howe finished 3 for 4, with a homer and double.
In other league openers, Chris Morgan’s two-run single in the first and Joe Furgason two-run double in the sixth supported Brian Lamarche in East Valley’s 6-3 win at Pullman.
Lamarche struck out five and walked six. For the Greyhounds, Aaron Linehan went 3 for 4, Kurt Druffel hit a solo homer and Jack McDonald (0-1) struck out six while not allowing an earned run.
At Clarkston, J.D. Burns’ two-run double in the fifth sent the Bantams to a 9-5 win over Riverside. Clarkston’s defense erased seven Rams baserunners - four trying to steal. John Marrow’s two-run single in the fifth led Riverside to a 5-3 lead.
Boys soccer
Tony Pass passed to Jesse Conner at the 67-minute mark to snap a 1-all tie as East Valley (2-1, 2-0) edged visiting Pullman (0-2) 2-1.
EV had a 27-4 shots-on-goal edge but couldn’t take the lead until late because of Eihab Daond’s play in goal.
Elsewhere, Ryan Baker did all the scoring as Riverside/Deer Park (1-1) pulled away for a 3-1 win at Medical Lake (0-2).
Tony Wacenske had two goals and one assist, and Chadd MacKay added two header goals as West Valley (2-0) beat visiting Colville 8-0. Colville is 1-1.
At Clarkston (0-2), Nick Reynolds’ second goal, at 66 minutes, lifted visiting Cheney (2-0) over the Bantams 4-3. Cheney’s Ryan Waller also scored twice.
