Widening Project On Indian Trail Delayed Until July
The Indian Trail Road widening project scheduled to start this spring has been delayed until July. And the project will probably be done over two years rather than one, as originally planned.
The stretch from Kathleen to Lowell will be widened first, said Dick Raymond, senior engineer for city of Spokane construction services.
Plans call for widening the road to four lanes, with a landscaped center swale for drainage.
The delay is caused by problems working out access to properties on both sides of the road. Developers involved are Harlan Douglass, Rod Plese, Leif Sorenson and William Tombari.
For drivers to get to the developments, the swale needs to be interrupted to allow left and right turns. However, every inch of swale capacity is needed for water runoff.
The city may have to revert to swales on either side of the road, requiring a 15-foot easement onto some of the properties.
“We’re in a holding pattern awaiting responses from the developers,” said Raymond.
Nevada-Lidgerwood bike paths?
After three years of planning, construction is expected to start this spring on a bike path for the Nevada-Lidgerwood neighborhood.
The path will follow Addison Street from Bridgeport to Dalke.
Funding for the $18,000 project was approved two years ago and is being paid for with community development funds.
Addison runs north and south through the center of the neighborhood, past Lidgerwood Elementary School.
