Brent Wolf Lake City Year: Junior Sport: Soccer Position: Midfielder
Brent Wolf loves to play golf. In itself that isn’t a problem.
However, when it came time for the Timberwolf to decide how he would spend his afternoons this spring, his love of the links almost won out over soccer.
“I love golf, but I realized after playing soccer for so long that I don’t want to give it up,” Wolf said. “After the Coeur d’Alene game I don’t enjoy golf more than soccer.”
It’s amazing what a two-goal performance against an arch-rival can do to bring priorities into focus. In what he described as the best game he’s ever played, Wolf knocked in an indirect kick and an outstanding low curling shot from about 40 feet to help LC defeat Coeur d’Alene High last Thursday.
Most important to Wolf, though, was that the 4-2 win gave the T-Wolves a season sweep over the Vikings.
“Scoring a pair was great, but the victory was the best feeling,” Wolf said.
Wolf followed his success against the Vikings with another two-goal effort against Post Falls. It was a great week for a player that LC coach Jim Facciano wasn’t sure he would have to start the year.
“I didn’t know what to expect from him because he was playing golf and soccer but lately he’s been very determined to play well,” Facciano said.
Facciano feels that Wolf’s biggest strengths are his finesse play and ball-handling skills. Wolf is an excellent passer, but more importantly, he gets open after making the pass.
Facciano describes Wolf as gazelle-like in the way that he moves smoothly on the field. Although the two sometimes argue, Facciano feels Wolf is one of the T-Wolves’ key players and will be a force in the midfield next year.
“He’s a fireball, but he’s improved immensely from last year,” Facciano said.
