Alice Haywood Spokane

Memorial Mass for Alice Faye Haywood, 58, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church. There will be private inurnment. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Haywood, who was born in Republic, Wash., died Wednesday.

She graduated from Curlew (Wash.) High School and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Inland Empire Diabetic Association, Pacific Northwest Postcard Club and the Inland Empire Coin Club.

Mrs. Haywood is survived by her husband, Charles Haywood; two sons, Paul Tonner of Riverside, Calif., and Alan Haywood of Enumclaw, Wash.; a daughter, Theresa Tonner of Fontana, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Mathias Kautzman Spokane

Memorial gathering for Mathias Kautzman, 53, will be at 2 p.m. May 11 at the family home. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kautzman, who was born in Norton County, N.D., died Sunday.

He had been a Spokane resident since 1984 and was a self-employed auto detailer.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Kautzman is survived by his wife, Sarah Kautzman; three sons, Richard Kautzman of Missoula, and Bill and Jerry Gover, both of Spokane; a daughter, Danielle Bonebright of Spokane; two brothers, Herman Kautzman of Moses Lake and Pat Kautzman of Bellingham; two sisters, Lorraine Doll and Jo Jensen, both of Billings, Mont.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James Bergeron Spokane

Memorial service for James A. Bergeron, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Bergeron, died Tuesday.

He was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and served in the Army during World War II in the chemical warfare department.

He later graduated from Gonzaga University with a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

Mr. Bergeron worked as an engineer for Kaiser Aluminum, Miller and Posten, and for the City of Spokane as a traffic engineer. He retired from the city in 1981.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marguerite; a son Mark Bergeron of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Patricia Bofenkamp Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Patricia Ann Bofenkamp, 53, will be held today from 4-7 p.m. at the Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Vigil service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Interment will take place at Nine Mile Cemetery in Wallace.

Ms. Bofenkamp, who was born in Minnesota, died Wednesday.

She grew up and attended school in Wallace and graduated from Our Lady of Lordes Academy in 1961.

Ms. Bofenkamp worked as office manager at Citizen’s Utility Company for six years and then worked at Idaho First National Bank.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1973 and worked as a bookkeeper for Kroetch Land & Timber, and American Bail Bond.

Ms. Bofenkamp was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Survivors include her companion, Fred Kroetch of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Barbara Kiser of Coeur d’Alene; and four brothers, Brent Bofenkamp of Alabama, Steve Bofenkamp of Silverton, Idaho, Dan Bofenkamp of Oregon and John Bofenkamp of Palouse, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kootenai Humane Society.

Cecil Gossard Kennewick

Graveside service for Cecil M. Gossard, 84, will be at 1 p.m. May 10 at the Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Gossard, who died Nov. 21, 1996, was born in Kadoka, S.D.

He came to Spokane in the early 1940s and became a firefighter in 1942. He retired in 1967 and moved to Kennewick in 1969.

Mr. Gossard was a member of the Eagles.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Doris Elverude; two sons, Marvin and Dennis Gossard, both of Spokane; two sisters, Sally Wodehouse of Richland and Darlene Smith of Spokane; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lloyd South Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Visitation for Lloyd V. South, 68, is today from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. South, who was born in Iowa, died Tuesday.

He moved to Nordman, Idaho, in 1935, before moving to Dover, Idaho.

Mr. South attended school in Sandpoint and served with the Army during World War II.

After his military service, he worked on the construction of the Panama Canal for several years before moving to California.

Mr. South returned to Bonners Ferry in 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Karen; a son, Shawn South of Bonners Ferry; two daughters, Debby South of Bonners Ferry and Sheri Keintz of Boise; his mother, Edna South of Sandpoint; four sisters, Beulah Haller and Mary Hoyle, both of Sandpoint, Berniece Van Den Berg of Lynnwood, Wash., and Margie Eskridge of Kootenai, Idaho; a brother, Melvin South of Alaska; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lester Kamlin Spokane

Memorial service for Lester Kamlin, 89, is set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Unity Church of Truth. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Kamlin, who was born in Cataldo, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He graduated from high school in Coeur d’Alene and later moved to Spokane.

Mr. Kamlin was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and retired in 1967.

He was a volunteer at Corbin Senior Center, where he taught lapidary classes.

He was a member of Audubon Masonic Lodge No. 272, Scottish Rite Bodies and White Rose Order of the Eastern Star No. 230.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Kamlin; two grandsons and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Scottish Rite Children’s Language Program.

Denny Kallas Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Denny Joe Kallas, 32, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Interment will be held in Butte, Mont. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kallas, who was born in Butte, died Monday.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1992 from Billings, Mont., after completing audio-video technician courses at May Technical College.

He was a licensed radio disc jockey and had worked at a country music station in Billings.

Survivors include his father, George Kallas of Butte; two sisters, Debi Thorkelson of Coeur d’Alene and Shauna Hampton of Spokane; two brothers, Wesley Kallas of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Donnie Kirby of Texas; and his grandmother, Florence Hiltz of Arizona.

Memorials may be made to the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program.

William Genoway Spokane

No service will be held for P. William Genoway.

Mr. Genoway, a former Spokane resident, died Monday in Yuma, Ariz. He was 75.

He was born in Spokane and had lived here for the past 52 years.

Mr. Genoway served in the Navy during World War II and spent 35 years working at Fairchild Air Force Base in the base supply section. He retired in 1977 as a supervisor.

During his retirement, he and his wife spent winters in Yuma.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Polly; a daughter, Pat Monczki and a son, Bill Genoway, both of Spokane; two brothers, David Genoway of Puyallup, Wash., and Bob Genoway of Richland; three sisters, Irene Bell of Bellingham, June Tollier of Wenatchee and Helen Kingsolver; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Gerald McFaul Twin Lakes, Idaho

Vigil service for Gerald Roch McFaul, 74, is planned for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. There will be private burial.

Mr. McFaul died Wednesday.

He was born in Ione, Wash., and graduated from Gonzaga University in 1949. He attended GU on an athletic scholarship, and the 1942-1943 championship basketball team with whom he played was inducted into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He interrupted his schooling to serve in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. McFaul was a high school teacher, coach and counselor for 38 years, spending most of those years at Pullman High School. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in the GU Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Marjorie; four sons, Mike McFaul of Issaquah, Wash., Gerry McFaul of Federal Way, Wash., David McFaul of Portland and Tom McFaul of Seattle; six daughters, Jane Hession, Sally Cey and Maureen Conley, all of Spokane, Susan Henderson of Puyallup, Wash., Mary McFaul of Seattle and Patti Benson of Bemidji, Minn.; a brother, Ted McFaul of Spokane; a sister, Clancy Koch of Sutherlin, Ore.; and 20 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gonzaga University Athletic Scholarship Fund.

Wyatt Stanley Spokane

Memorial service for Wyatt T. Stanley Jr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Ione, Wash. Thornhill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Stanley died April 23. He was 38.

He attended West Valley High School and was a self-employed landscaper.

Survivors include a son, Shawn Moore and a daughter, Sara Moore, both at home; two sisters, Barbara “Sharon” Sample of Rockford and LeeAnne Conte of Spokane; and three brothers, George Basnaw of Ione, Joe Basnaw of Hauser Lake, Idaho, and Walter Basnaw of Darby, Mont.

Jerry Naimy Spokane

Memorial service for Jerry A. Naimy, a retired West Valley High School teacher, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Millwood Community Presbyterian Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Naimy, who was born in Walla Walla, died Tuesday. He was 83.

He graduated from Washington State University and taught at West Valley High School from 1936 until 1972, except for four years when he served in the Army as assistant professor of military science and tactics at WSU.

He retired as a major from the Army Reserve.

Mr. Naimy was a member of the Washington Education Association and a recipient of the John Hay Fellowship at Columbia University.

He was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite Bodies, the Spokane Valley Camera Club and the West Valley Kiwanis Club, and was a founding member of the Spokane Valley Gun Club.

Survivors include his wife, Leta (Thomas) Naimy; three daughters, Barbara Boltin at home, Linda Gardner of Menominee, Wis., and Norma Jenner of North Bend, Wash.; two sisters, Ruth Naimy of Olympia and Vivian Hackett of East Hampton, N.Y.; a brother, Arthur Naimy of Walla Walla; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
