American Airlines’ pilot union overwhelmingly ratified a five-year contract Monday, ending nearly three years of bitter negotiations for the nation’s largest domestic airline.

The contract was accepted by 69 percent of Allied Pilots Association members, said APA President Jim Sovich. Pilots in all 10 American bases except San Francisco were in favor of the pact.

“I think all the bases realized it’s time to move forward,” Sovich said. “We’ve demonstrated in the past that if the company treats the pilots fairly, they’ll give 150 percent. If they don’t, they won’t.”
