Hughes’ Double Lifts Shadle Park

Sean Hughes’ two-run double in the fifth inning led Shadle Park past Central Valley 12-2 Monday in Greater Spokane League baseball.

The Highlanders and the Bears now share third place with 7-6 records. Winner Jeff Lafferty struck out 10 and, at the plate, tripled.

Shadle Park’s Eric Hayden doubled twice and drove in two runners.

Brad Hodl singled in the winning run for the Saxons in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Pirates (5-7).

Ferris (8-4) had been down 8-3, but the Saxons tied the game in the sixth by scoring five runs on three singles, three walks and a double.

The Saxons scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to defeat the Pirates and pick up a crucial victory.

Christine Ganey tied the game at 1-1 in the first inning for the Saxons (5-7), and Kylee Curry shut down the Pirates (8-4) for the remainder of the game.

In a make-up game, the Titans scored 10 runs in the final inning to beat the Indians (0-13) and remain undefeated.

Katy Oglesbee had a two-run double with the bases loaded to launch the scoring parade for the Titans (12-0). Winning pitcher Cheryl Andrizzi had 12 strikeouts and contributed three hits.

Ashley LeGrant had three hits and three RBIs in the opener and Stookey had the only extra-base hit, a double, in the nightcap.
