Cardinals Get Split In Tourney

A barrage of two-run homers Thursday guided North Idaho College to a 12-9 win over Utah Valley Community College in a Region 18 baseball tournament opener at Dixie College.

NIC (17-19) then lost to College of Southern Idaho 5-4, leaving two men on base in the ninth inning.

The Cardinals play Snow College today at 10 a.m.

NIC’s Paul Wilson, Nathan Lynch and Andy Larson had tworun homers against Utah Valley (36-19). Wilson and Lynch both finished with four RBIs.

NIC led its second game 4-2 when the Golden Eagles (38-16) scored three in the bottom of the eighth off Marc Pizzoferrato. Mike Dorame’s solo homer in the ninth gave the Cardinals hope, but they stranded two baserunners.
