Cigarettes, Beer Stolen During Excell Store Burglary

Sheriff’s detectives are looking for witnesses to a burglary early Wednesday during which beer and three dozen cartons of cigarettes were stolen from a Spokane Valley grocery store.

Deputies who responded to the burglary alarm at the Excell Foods store at 14515 E. Trent found a large hole in the front door. A rock was thrown through the glass at about 1:50 a.m., said David Reagan, sheriff’s department spokesman.

Thirty to 40 cartons of Camel and Marlboro cigarettes were stolen from the tobacco case, Reagan said. Three or four 12-packs of Red Dog beer also were taken from a cooler, he said. No suspects or getaway vehicle was seen.

Store officials told deputies the merchandise was valued at about $900. Damage to the store’s front door was estimated at $300.

Anyone who may have seen a suspect or a vehicle near the front of the store about the time of the burglary is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
