Dayl James Spokane

Memorial service for Dayl Wilmer James, 84, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the First Church of the Open Bible. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James, who was born in Marlin (Krupp), Wash., died Saturday.

His family moved to Chewelah, Wash., when he was a teenager, and later moved to Orient, Wash.

In 1936 he moved to Spokane and worked in the home construction industry. He retired in 1974.

He later earned a civil engineering degree from LaSalle Extension University and served as superintendent for construction of several Spokane buildings.

He was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible and Carpenters Union Local No. 98.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marguerite (Myers) James.

Mr. James is survived by two daughters, Beverly Sturdevant and Sharon Gurley, both of Spokane; his mother, Charlotte James of Pomeroy, Wash.; a brother, Brainard James of Enterprise, Ore.; four sisters, Vida Blackstone, Elaine Emmel, Leola Grace and Zella Johnson, all of Spokane; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Open Bible.

Betty Martin Metaline Falls, Wash.

Memorial service for Betty Jean Martin, 72, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church in Metaline Falls. Private inurnmnet will follow at the Metaline Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martin, who was born in Ione, Wash., died last Thursday.

She graduated from Metaline Falls High School and attended Kelsey-Baird College in Seattle.

In 1943 she married Angus “Gus” Martin and they lived in Coolin, Idaho, and later in Metaline Falls.

Her husband died in 1975, and she moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she worked as an assistant camp manager on the Alaska Pipeline.

She later moved to Spokane, where she worked as a cook for Holy Family Hospital. She later returned to Metaline Falls.

She was a member of the Pend Oreille Valley Historical Society.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Martin of Bucoda, Wash., Carl Martin of Metaline Falls and Thomas Martin of Medical Lake; two stepdaughters, Joanne Sutton of San Jose, Calif., and Jean Garcia of Santa Clara, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren.

Burton Thompson Spokane

Memorial service for Burton O. Thompson, 73, will be Saturday at Green’s Funeral Chapel in Redmond, Wash. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Thompson, who was born in Marysville, Wash., died Friday.

In 1944, he married Margaret Tanac in Everett.

He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and later co-owned T-D Feed in Redmond. He retired in 1985.

He and his wife moved to Spokane in 1985 from Redmond.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cynthia Young of Monroe, Wash., Susan Bolduc of Woodinville, Wash., and Teresa Hill of LaCrosse, Wash.; a son, Brian Thompson of Otis Orchards; a brother, Howard Thompson of Veradale; two sisters, Leona Hanson of Sultan, Wash., and Evelyn Kirkland of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.

Doris Johnson Spokane

Graveside service for Doris A. Johnson, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Johnson, who was born in Cass Lake, Minn., died Monday.

She was a 30-year Spokane resident and a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas.

Alice Monaghan Hayden Lake, Idaho

Memorial service for Alice Lucille Monaghan, 69, will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Mrs. Monaghan, who was born near Harrison, Idaho, died Monday.

She was a lifelong Coeur d’Alene area resident and attended school in Carlin Bay and Harrison.

She married William Monaghan in Coeur d’Alene in 1947.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, William Monaghan Jr., of Post Falls and Michael Monaghan of Hayden Lake; a daughter, Lynda Wright of Rathdrum; four brothers, Arthur and Albert Bolich, both of Coeur d’Alene, Glenn Bolich of Boise and Floyd Bolich of Clarkston, Wash.; two sisters, Jennie Ramm of Soap Lake, Wash., and Ruth Mantz of Washougal, Wash.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Theodore Morgan Spokane

Graveside memorial service for Theodore Watson Morgan, 90, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport, Wash. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Morgan, who was born in Zion, Ill., died Saturday.

He had lived in Spokane for 53 years and owned Lutz Dental Laboratory.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

His wife, Elaine Morgan, died in 1993.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Evans and Corrine Pepin, both of Spokane; a son, Ted Morgan of Seattle; a sister, Dora Tickner of Carmichael, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Emma Jean Catlow Spokane

Service for Emma Jean Catlow, 82, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Catlow, who died Saturday, was born in Endicott, Wash.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She had lived in Spokane for 35 years.

Her husband of 62 years, Maurie Catlow, died in 1994.

She is survived by four daughters, Dorothy Smith of Fairfield, Mary Woods of Tumwater, Wash., and Jeanette Caldwell and Maureen Anderson, both of Spokane; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission or to Anna Ogden Hall for Women and Children.

John Anderson Republic, Wash.

Service for John Francis “Jack” Anderson, 63, was held Saturday at the Republic Church of the Nazarene. Burial was at the Republic Cemetery.

Mr. Anderson, who was born in Tonasket, Wash., died Wednesday.

He attended school in Republic and suffered a spinal cord injury in high school. He worked as a stocking clerk and milk department manager at the Anderson Grocery Store.

Mr. Anderson won several awards for craft work he entered in the Ferry County Fair.

Survivors include his father, Dean Anderson of Republic, and a brother, Bob Anderson of Renton, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ferry County Memorial Hospital or the Republic Cemetery Association.

Jennie ‘Belle’ Noecker Smelterville, Idaho

Memorial service for Jennie “Belle” Noecker, 73, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Kellogg Church of the Nazarene. Inurnment will be at Shoshone Memorial Gardens in Pinehurst. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Noecker, who was born in Wyoming, died Monday.

She moved to the Silver Valley in 1941 from South Dakota and worked as a cook at various restaurants.

Mrs. Hoecker was preceded in death by her husband, Harry.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald Flory of Smelterville, Idaho, Robert Flory of Spokane and Dean Flory of Wenatchee; two daughters, Diane Traxtle of Kellogg and Juanita Wiyrick of Coulee Dam, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Harold Warwick Oakesdale, Wash.

Graveside service for Harold D. Warwick, 74, will be at 11 a.m. today at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse, Wash. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Warwick, who was born near Oakesdale, died Sunday.

He graduated from Oakesdale High School and attended college in Cheney.

He returned to the family farm near Oakesdale when World War II started. He retired from farming in 1982.

In 1960 he married Helen Parsons in Palouse.

He was a member of the Good Sam Club, the Oakesdale Odd Fellows Lodge and the Oakesdale Grain Growers.

Mr. Warwick is survived by his wife; a son, John Warwick of Oakesdale; two sisters, Helen Lesser of Oakesdale and Frances Jones of Coeur d’Alene; and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tekoa Ambulance Fund or the Whitman Convalescent Center in Colfax.

James Donais Newport, Wash.

Service for James M. Donais, 66, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.

Mr. Donais, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He graduated from Rogers High School and worked as a brick mason supervisor for Kaiser Mead for more than 31 years. He retired in 1982.

Mr. Donais had served as fire commissioner for Pend Oreille County Fire District No. 7 for six years.

He lived in Newport for 25 years and was a member of the Fertile Valley Grange.

He is survived by his wife, June Donais; two sons, James Donais of Chattaroy, Wash., and Jerrold Donais of New Fairfield, Conn.; a daughter, Jeanne Donais of Kamiah, Idaho; two brothers, Jack and Jerry Donais, both of Spokane; a sister, Joyce Schultz ; and eight grandchildren.

Mabel Hanson Hayden Lake, Idaho

Graveside service for Mabel Judith Hanson, 61, was Wednesday at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Hanson, who was born in Troy, Mont., died Friday.

She grew up in Spirit Lake and had lived in Cataldo and Bonners Ferry before moving to Hayden Lake in 1977.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Marvin; a son, Marvin Hanson of Hayden; three daughters, Judith Lofthus of Hayden, Deborah Wegner of Athol and Margy Hattenburg of Hayden Lake; a sister, Barbara Kruse of Rathdrum; three half-brothers, Pat Mott of Twin Lakes, Idaho, Duffy White of Rathdrum and John Mott of Athol; two half-sisters, Frances Meduna of Spokane and Eunis White of St. Maries; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Towles Spokane

Memorial service for Robert H. Towles, 51, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Towles, who was born in Kalispell, Mont., died Tuesday.

In 1966 he married Dicki Bippes of Spokane, and they settled in the Spokane Valley.

Mr. Towles worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 31 years and retired as a conductor.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Travis Towles, a daughter Tia DuBois, his mother, Leta Towles, and two brothers, Dewey and Bill Towles, all of the Spokane Valley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Jerrine Skewis Spokane

No service will be held for Jerrine Rose Skewis at her request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Skewis died Monday. She was 72.

She was a lifetime Spokane resident and attended Lewis and Clark High School.

She and her husband, Jack Skewis, managed the Sutton Bay Resort at Newman Lake for many years.

Mrs. Skewis had worked for Key Tronic for nine years, until 1986.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack.

She is survived by two daughters, Gerrie Skewis of Spokane and Janet Skewis of Post Falls; a son, Lee Skewis of Spokane; two brothers, Gary and Irving Peterson, both of Spokane; a sister, Bernile Moore of Portland; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
