Colville Sweeps Ev, Ties For Title

AAA softball

Tarrah Brown won twice and drove in two runs in the second game Saturday as Colville swept visiting East Valley 2-0, 5-1 to finish tied for the Frontier League title.

Colville (16-2) knotted West Valley for first place, but earns the No. 1 seed to the District 7-AA/A tournament because of it 2-1 record against WV.

District opens at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Medical Lake with: Colville vs. Northeast A No. 4 Colfax (6-11); WV vs. NEA No. 3 Lakeside (11-7); FL No. 3 East Valley (13-5) vs. NEA No. 2 Kettle Falls (15-2); and FL No. 4 Cheney (7-11) vs. NEA No. 1 Freeman (14-2).

In Colville’s opener Saturday, Jamie Entwistle tripled in the fifth and scored on Melissa Wollan’s double. Wollan scored on a passed ball. EV’s Rebecca Triplett struck out seven, one more than Brown.

Brown had RBI singles in the first and fifth during the second game. Colville’s Carissa True added a sacrifice fly in the second. Malea Schumacher of EV doubled in the sixth and scored on Ashley LeGrant’s single.

Cinnamon Anderson homered, scored three runs and drove in four in the second game as the Bantams (6-12) swept the visiting Greyhounds (3-15).

Misty Gates, who struck out four in the opener, had an RBI triple in the fifth and scored on Christy Gribble’s sacrifice fly.

Freeman takes title

Angela McCathern singled, went to third when the ball skipped past the left fielder, and scored on a wild pitch to give Freeman an eight-inning, 3-2 win over Kettle Falls in the championship game at Medical Lake.

KF had taken a 2-0 lead in the third on Piper Benjamin’s two-run triple. Freeman answered with unearned runs in the fifth and sixth.

KF had won the NEA regular season by one game over Freeman.

Freeman advanced to the title game with a 12-1 win over Lakeside. KF beat Colfax 8-0 in the other semifinal.

Lakeside beat Colfax 3-0 in the consolation bracket, then lost to KF 9-5.

Whitman County tourney

Garfield-Palouse wins

Garfield-Palouse beat Rosalia 7-6 in the title game at Palouse. The Vikings are No. 1 to the District 9-B tourney, Rosalia is No. 2.

Rosalia opened the day by eliminating Tekoa-Oakesdale 13-7.
