Frances Mutch Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Frances A. Mutch, 69, will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mutch, who was born in Minnesota, died Thursday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Minnesota and lived in Montana and Coulee Dam, Wash., before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1972.

Mrs. Mutch was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a homemaker.

She married Clyde Mutch in Coeur d’Alene in 1983.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Tereasa Morley of Sicily, Leah Rasmussen of Anchorage, Alaska, and Denise Wilkinson of Illinois; a brother, Severt Thompson Jr. of Minnesota; four sisters, Virginia Nylander of Seattle, and Alma Popejoy, Eva Hauner and Charlotte Budris, all of Minnesota; and four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 280 Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814, or the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ruth Johnson Troy, Idaho

Service for Ruth E. M. Johnson, 84, will be today at 1 p.m. at the Troy Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Nora, Idaho, died Friday. She grew up and attended school in Troy, going on to attend the University of Idaho and Kinman Business School in Spokane.

Mrs. Johnson received a teaching degree from UI and taught school for five years at Avon and Pleasant Hill.

She married C. Arthur Johnson in Troy in 1940. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Johnson was active in the Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and the Troy PTA and received various awards for her musical accomplishments.

She also delivered flowers for Moscow Floral and Scotts Flowers and served on the board of community concerts.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Troy Lutheran Church and was president of the Troy Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a son, James Johnson of Asotin, Wash.; three daughters, Gloria Wilson of Troy, Marie Mathis of Everett and Karen May of Potlatch, Idaho; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Troy Lutheran Church of the Troy Fire Department.

Thomas Darcy Spokane

Funeral Mass for Thomas Patrick Darcy, 77, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Darcy, who was born in Stephen, Minn., died Wednesday.

He married Marie Geyer in 1940 and worked for Quaker Oats Company.

In 1953, they moved to Rockford, where he worked for Challenger Feed Co. They moved to Spokane in 1962 and he worked as a security guard for Kaiser Aluminum, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. Mary Parish.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Theresa Scott of Spokane, Jeannie Zappone of Bellevue, Wash., Joann Rockstrom of Spokane and Pat Shouse of Tacoma; three sons, Jim Darcy of Spokane, Tom Darcy of Edmonds, Wash., and Bill Darcy of Spokane; a brother, Alfred Darcy of Rockford; two sisters, Mary Schmitz of South Dakota and Lucille Truax of Littleton, Colo.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Leonard Watt Spokane

Service for Leonard L. Watt, 79, is planned for 1 p.m. today at the Hillyard Baptist Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Watt, who was born in Williston, N.D., died Wednesday.

In 1958 he married Mary Jane Cass in Spokane.

Mr. Watt worked as a housekeeper at Sacred Heart Medical Center and was a member of the Kentucky Colonels, the Civilian Conservation Corps and Hillyard Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jane; a son, Harry Watt of Salt Lake City; and two sisters, Margaret Simons of Davenport and Lucille Olson of Lodi, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Foundation.

Helen Herrick Spokane

Graveside service for Helen Albertina Herrick, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Herrick, who was born in Lebanon, Ore., died Wednesday.

She lived in Spokane for 14 years and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Alfred Herrick, died in March.

She is survived by a daughter, Sally Davies of Spokane; a son, Michael Herrick of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Marcile Poniatowski of Portland; and four grandchildren.

Iris Mellem Spokane

Graveside service for Iris E. Mellem is planned for 10 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mellem, who was born in Priest River, Idaho, died Wednesday. She was 71.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 45 years and worked as a bookkeeper for Diamond Ice and Fuel, and for Deaconess Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Chester; a son, Randy Mellem of Spokane; a daughter, Linda Jones of Eugene, Ore.; a brother, William Neubauer of Lynnwood, Wash.; a sister, Shirley Sherwood of Concord, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Paul Marler Spokane

No service will be held for Paul T. Marler at his request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marler, who was born in Colfax, Wash., died Tuesday. He was 78.

He was a 40-year Colbert resident and worked as a general contractor.

Mr. Marler is survived by a son, Douglas Marler of Spokane; and two sisters, Ruth Pierson of San Diego and Maria Burrell of Granite Falls, Wash.

Charles Humphrey Spokane

Memorial service for Charles George Humphrey, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Humphrey, who was born in Kentucky, died Friday.

He was a 65-year Spokane resident and worked as a long haul truck driver for United Buckingham for 27 years.

Mr. Humphrey is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edith; and a daughter, Deborah Humphrey, both of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Moore Church.

Ruth Nielsen Spokane

Graveside service for Ruth Evelyn Nielsen, 84, was Thursday at Royal Memorial Gardens in Royal City, Wash. Burial followed at Royal Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Nielsen, who was born in Columbia Falls, Mont., died May 10.

She married Henry Nielsen in Kalispell, Mont.

In 1951 she moved to Spokane and worked as a seamstress for Sacred Heart Medical Center and later St. Lukes Hospital.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean Ferguson of Royal City; a son, James Nielsen, and a brother, Donald Wegner, both of California; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

James Floyd Coeur d’Alene

At the family’s request, no service will be held for James P. Floyd, 60. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Floyd, who was born in Pennsylvania, died March 30. He served in the military for seven years and later was a steelworker.

His wife, Margaret, died Wednesday.

Survivors include two sons, Frank Floyd of Coeur d’Alene and James Floyd of Arizona; a sister, Margie Goff of Tennessee; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Ida Degrood Spokane

Funeral Mass for Ida M. Degrood, 75, was held Wednesday at St. Gertrude’s Monastery in Cottonwood, Idaho. Burial followed at Cottonwood Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Degrood, who was born in Glen Ullin, N.D., died May 10.

A 41-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Degrood was a part-time secretary and a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Douglas Degrood of Seattle and Thomas Degrood of Spokane; three sisters, Claudia Sada of Cleveland, Margorie Prest of Pittsburgh and Sister Coletta Weiand of Cottonwood; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gertrude’s Monastery in Cottonwood.
