Emmy Folks Tell Barker, ‘Bob, Just Come On Down’
If you plan to stay up late Wednesday watching the Emmy awards hoping to catch a glimpse of Bob Barker - let’s not pursue why in the world you would want to do that - you’re going to be disappointed.
Barker, longtime host of “The Price is Right” and a game show Emmy nominee, is boycotting. The reason? Because the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences doesn’t plan to present game-show awards during the evening show.
Instead, the game-show awards will be presented in a taped segment along with the technical awards.
Barker, an 11-time winner, hopes to send a substitute in his place: Susan Lucci, who despite being nominated for 17 Daytime Emmys, has never won. “She has such a great presence on stage and must have an excellent acceptance speech ready by now,” Barker said.
Loose talk
Dolly Parton on telling her director that she wouldn’t dance on her video for her remake of Cat Stevens’ song “Peace Train”: “He would try to show me moves, and I said, ‘Oh, God, you can’t make an old ocean make new waves.”’
And just her luck, the day’ll probably turn sunny
Cher turns 51 today.
But on her finger, she belongs to the whole world
She’s wearing diamond rings on fingers of both hands, but actress Jada Pinkett says it doesn’t mean that nuptials are imminent for her and Will Smith. Even so, she told TV Guide, “In my heart, I belong to that man.”
In other words, they lied but not with evil intent
Actor/filmmaker Mario Van Peebles believes his 1995 film “Panther” truthfully reflects the 1960s. But Bobby Seale doesn’t agree. Seale, one of the founding members of the Black Panthers, says the film doesn’t represent him accurately. And even though a U.S. District judge agreed, the judge threw out Seale’s lawsuit. The reason: Seale failed to prove that the producers displayed malice in their artistic decisions.
To enter real life, you need a passport and a VISA
According to Bill Cosby, real life comes at graduating college students pretty quickly. “There’s a huge track behind you, but once tomorrow comes, you still got those credit cards, you still got phone bills, you still got car bills, you still got so many things to deal with,” he said at George Washington University’s graduation ceremonies on Sunday.
Now Van Halen can indeed drive its tour bus 55
Rocker Sammy Hagar is beginning the concert tour in support of his album “Marching to Mars” with the following message to Van Halen, the band that dumped him: “If they think they can bring anyone in to replace Sammy Hagar, they’re making a big mistake.” Hagar, 49, had enjoyed a long solo career before joining up with Van Halen.
Luckily it was hers, so she just popped it back in
Here’s another reason to pay attention during the national anthem: At a recent performance of said song before a Mighty Ducks hockey game, actress Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”) raised her arm and a breast popped out of her costume.
