Maxwell Involved In Fracas

Compiled From Wire Services

NBA free-agent guard Vernon Maxwell was allegedly pistol-whipped in an incident on a Houston street early this morning, police said.

The 31-year-old Maxwell wouldn’t give a statement to police or press charges after the 1:35 a.m. local time incident, said Houston Police Department spokesman Fred King.

Maxwell and the other injured man were treated at Hermann Hospital. Maxwell gave a false name for his treatment and left before police could question him in detail, King said.

Maxwell was let go by the San Antonio Spurs on April 30 after averaging 12.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 72 games last season.

A day after finishing at the back of the pack in the NBA draft lottery, the Cleveland Cavaliers said they will exercise their option to take the Phoenix Suns’ first-round pick in the draft next month.

The decision means the Cavs will have the 13th, 16th and 41st picks in the draft June 25.
