Modernist Architect To Speak
Stainless steel, translucent glass, concrete panels and corrugated sheet-metal siding are not the normal ingredients one associates with an architect-designed residence.
But Californian Jim Jennings is not your typical architect.
A dedicated modernist, Jennings creates forms that his peers either love or dismiss. (“Where you use the word ‘boring,’ I would use the word ‘silent,”’ responded one design-contest juror to another’s criticism of an award-winning Jennings design.)
Judge for yourself Thursday night at 7:30 when Jennings gives a free public lecture in the Spokane City Council Chamber at 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.
You can also take the opportunity to peek in across the hall at the Chase Gallery exhibit “Spokane: Lost and Found,” a salute to local buildings that have been torn down and historic ones that have been saved.
Jennings’ lecture is sponsored by the Spokane chapter of the American Institute of Architects .
