Buddhist Monks Killed In Accident

Associated Press

A van filled with Buddhist monks visiting from Thailand crashed on Interstate 5 after it was apparently run off the freeway by the wind of a passing truck, killing seven people and injuring seven.

The van was on its way Monday night from the San Francisco Bay Area to North Hollywood with 12 monks and two laymen.

Eleven of the monks were visiting from Thailand to help prepare for a celebration of a temple opening in Fremont, said Venerable Supharp Sikkhasabho of the Thai Buddhist Temple in North Hollywood. The other monk and the laymen were from Sikkhasabho’s temple.
