Bert Fuhrman Clarkston, Wash.

Committal service for Bert Fuhrman, 70, was Friday at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse, Wash.

Mr. Fuhrman, who was born in Little Falls, Minn., died May 11.

He served in the Army following World War II and during the Korean War. He was a member of the 333rd Engineering Battalion and was discharged in 1952.

In 1954 he married Louise Anderson in Coeur d’Alene, and they lived in Lewiston until they moved to Potlatch, Idaho, in 1958.

They later moved to Moscow, Idaho and, in 1989, to Pullman. Mr. Fuhrman had lived in Clarkston, Wash. for the past six months.

He worked as a carpenter until retiring in 1987.

Mr. Fuhrman was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge.

His wife, Louise, died in 1983.

Survivors include three sons, Richard and John Fuhrman, both of Moscow and Timothy Fuhrman of Spokane; two daughters, Reta Fuhrman of Santa Maria, Calif., and Peg Kitt of Tensed, Idaho; a stepdaughter, Beverly Taggart of Ridge Crest, Calif.; four brothers, Leo Fuhrman of Woodburn, Ore., Boyd and Ernie Fuhrman, both of Clarkston, and Donald Fuhrman of Lewiston; two sisters, Lorraine Mathewson and Evelyn Ash, both of Lewiston; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Eva Francis Spokane

No service will be held for Eva I. Francis, 88, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Francis died Tuesday.

She was a lifetime Spokane resident and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Francis.

Mrs. Francis is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Sydor of Kennewick; 12 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Velma Hoppman Spokane

No service will be held for Velma Hoppman, 53, at her request. Inurnment will be at the Ellensburg Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hoppman, who was born in Brumley, Mo., was a 24-year Spokane resident. She died Sunday.

Survivors include her husband, Dean; two sons, Michael and Dennis Hoppman, both of Spokane; a daughter, Deanna Hoppman of Spokane; two brothers, four sisters and 10 grandchildren.

Morris George Wallace

Service for Morris S. George, 91, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place at the Day Cemetery in Osburn, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. George, who was born in Canada, died Sunday.

He moved to North Idaho in 1922 from Canada and had worked as a machinist and draftsman. He also worked at Coeur d’Alene Hardware and Foundry and was employed by various area mines, including the Tamarack Mine.

Mr. George married Mary Ann Foster in 1932, and she died in 1947.

He married Marjorie Cross in 1950, and she died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Jack Foster of Lynnwood, Wash.; a brother, Hope George of Canada; a sister, Sylvia Hill of Canada; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Partridge Coeur d’Alene

At his request, no service will be held for Kenneth W. Partridge, 81. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Partridge, who was born in Harrington, Wash., died Tuesday. He had worked for the Forest Service, Bunker Hill and Kaiser Aluminum.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Audrey; a son, James Patridge of Ohio; two daughters, Pat McCloskey of Maryland and Virginia Benedetto of Virginia; a sister, Irene Leason of Spokane; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jessie Dire Spokane

Graveside service for Jessie M. Dire, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dire, who was a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She and her husband, Frank Dire, owned King’s Mobile Home Park from 1954 until 1978. He died in 1994.

She was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Washington Mobile Home Park Association.

Survivors include a son and daughter, Robert Dire Sr. and Linda Dire, both of Spokane; a sister, Bernice Soper of Spokane; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wishing Star Foundation.

Iola Kirk Mead

Visitation for Iola Kirk, 83, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Kirk, who was born in Wallace, Neb., died Wednesday.

In 1930 she married John Kirk in Holyoke, Colo., and they later moved to Spokane.

She was a 62-year Spokane resident and worked as a cook for several Spokane school districts and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Kirk is survived by her husband; a daughter, Janet Owens of Valleyford; two sons, Gordon Kirk of Tacoma and Robert Kirk of Coulee City, Wash.; a brother, Victor Favinger of North Platte, Neb.; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Central Care Center Resident Council Fund.

George Marshall Sr. Spokane

No service will be held for George V. Marshall Sr. at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marshall, who was born in Yakima, died Tuesday. He was 79.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and Kinman Business College and had served in the Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Mr. Marshall worked as a heavy-duty concrete truck driver for Acme Concrete for 25 years. He retired in 1976.

He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 690.

He is survived by his wife, Theda; three sons, Charles and George L. Marshall, both of Spokane, and George V. Marshall Jr. of Veradale; two daughters, Sharon Peterson of Aberdeen, Wash., and Wendy Marshall of Seattle; a brother, Fred Marshall of Elk; a sister, Kay of Seattle; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Betty Pierce Northport, Wash.

Burial Mass for Betty L. Pierce, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Northport. Burial will follow at the Northport Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pierce, a lifetime Northport resident, died Tuesday.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Silver Crown Homemakers Club, the Over 40 Club and the Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Olmstead of Northport, Betty Maki of Spokane and Patti Buchignani of Princeton, British Columbia; three sons, Fred Pierce of Colville, Charles Pierce of Kettle Falls, Wash., and Ralph Pierce of Northport; two half-brothers, Chuck Laird of Republic, Wash., and Dick Laird of Spokane; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Northport Medical Clinic.

Richard Martin Spokane

Memorial service for Richard F. Martin is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Martin, who was born in Sprague, Wash., died May 15. He was 84.

He moved to Spokane in 1929. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in England, France and Germany.

Mr. Martin worked as a retail sales department manager for Sears and Moss Co. for 32 years and was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Connie; two daughters, Barbara Potter of the Spokane Valley, and Jody McClellan of Littleton, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

Sidney White Spokane

Service for Sidney S. White, 75, is set for 10:30 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. White, a 31-year Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He was born in Stevensville, Texas.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was a self-employed furniture upholsterer.

Mr. White is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor; five sons, Donald, Ronald, Dale and John White and Dan Chapman, all of Spokane; two daughters, Jewel Varga of Green Bay, Wis., and Kathryn Lybeer of Longmont, Colo.; two brothers, Clarence White of Eufaula, Ala., and Robert White of Sweetwater, Texas; two sisters, Lowetta Bailey of Harrison, Tenn., and Joyce Crandall of Ashville, N.C., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William Stegenga Olympia

Memorial service for William Stegenga, 82, was Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Olympia.

Mr. Stegenga, who died Sunday, was born in Spokane.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and attended Spokane University and later graduated from Washington State College.

In 1938 he married Geraldine Miller in Moscow, Idaho and they settled in Spokane.

Mr. Stegenga worked as an industrial engineer at Grand Coulee Dam, at the Icicle Creek Fish Hatchery in Leavenworth, Wash., and later helped build the naval air station in Shelton, Wash.

He held various positions in Western Washington, Alaska and Saudia Arabia and in 1961 bought a country store in Ford, Wash. He later sold the store and went to work at several different dams.

In 1985 he and his wife, Geraldine, moved to Olympia from Spokane.

Mr. Stegenga is survived by his wife; two sons, Michael Stegenga of Griffith, Ind., and John Stegenga of Olympia; three grandsons and one great-grandchild.
