Tarkanian Wins Round
The NCAA lost in its bid to get the Nevada Supreme Court to move a trial of former UNLV basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian’s lawsuit against it out of Las Vegas.
The high court, in a 3-1 ruling, said the NCAA failed to show that prospective jurors were likely to have read what the association described as inflammatory, anti-NCAA news accounts published for years in Las Vegas.
Chief Justice Miriam Shearing, who wrote the majority opinion, said there was substantial evidence to support a lower court ruling against the NCAA’s request.
