State AAA/AA golf
Mead’s Britney Holt went out in style Wednesday, and Ferris made certain coach Dan Nicksich did the same.
Holt, a senior, won her second consecutive girls State AAA golf championship with a final-round 7-over-par 79 at Yakima’s Appletree Golf Course.
Holt sank a 9-foot par putt on 18 to finish at 156 and avoid a playoff with Bridget Johnson of Ferris. Johnson, by shooting a second-day 73, the tourney’s low round, finished at 157. She birdied the 18th to put pressure on Holt.
The efforts of Johnson, Hillary Prugh (tied for fifth at 161), Laura Hicks (seventh at 162) and Jaime Seefried (28th at 177) gave Ferris a team-best 128 points in Nicksich’s final season. Ferris placed second last year and first in 1995.
Runner-up Redmond scored 81. Third-place Mead scored 75, with Sara Northcutt in 16th at 169.
