Sandpoint Clears The Deck For ‘Pirates’
Theater
The Performing Arts and Humanities of Sandpoint opens “The Pirates of Penzance” tonight in Sandpoint’s Performing Arts Theatre.
This comic opera, about a group of less-than-threatening pirates who land in England, is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most loved works.
Sandpoint baritone Tom Fuhriman sings the role of the Pirate King, Sandpoint soprano Cassandra Nelson sings the role of Mabel and Bonners Ferry tenor James Hurst (now at Stephen Austin University on a vocal scholarship) sings the role of Frederick.
The Keystone Cops-style police will be played in this production by eight women.
The director is Su Coffey-Berg.
The show runs tonight, Friday and Saturday and continues June 4, 6, 7 at the Performing Arts Theatre, 506 Oak in Sandpoint. All shows are at 7:30 p.m. except this Saturday’s show at 2 p.m.

‘Mama Drama’ benefit A benefit performance of the Spokane Civic Theatre’s award-winning production of “Mama Drama” will take place Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at The Met.
This performance will raise money to send the cast and crew to the national competition of the American Association of Community Theatre on June 16. “Mama Drama” has already won the state and regional competitions.
“Mama Drama” is an ensemble piece, showing different perspectives of motherhood.
Following The Met performance, there will be a Tony Awards party in the lobby, with refreshments and no-host bar, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
