Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Our two cats, Kit and Lucy, are great mousers and like to leave up “presents” on the front porch after a successful hunt.

I have found a solution that is easy, inexpensive and harmless to our pets. About once a week I give the welcome mat and surrounding area a liberal sprinkling of ground black pepper. The cats won’t go near the pepper, and there are no more surprises when we open the door to bring in the morning newspaper! This works so well, I hope you’ll share it with your readers. - Sherry Mohan, Port Jervis, N.Y.

Dear Heloise: I find it easy and time-saving to use a potato peeler on a cold stick of butter or margarine when serving my daughter pancakes, toast, English muffins, French toast or a warm flour tortilla. It’s easy to apply, and the butter melts a lot faster. - Jolene Thompson, Oceanside, Calif.
