Ten years ago: Eleven people were killed when a bomb planted by the Irish Republican Army exploded as crowds gathered in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, for a ceremony honoring Britain’s war dead.
Five years ago: Volunteers began reading aloud the 58,183 names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., as part of a tribute marking the 10th anniversary of the monument. Some 350,000 people rallied in Berlin against racist violence.
One year ago: Three days after his re-election, President Clinton said at a news conference that there always are “a lot of hard feelings” after elections, but he urged Republicans to put aside politically charged investigations and work with him to balance the budget and enact campaign finance reform.
