Ccs Clinches Tie For Title

Community Colleges of Spokane earned at least a tie for the title by defeating Big Bend CC 15-9, 15-0, 15-3 Wednesday in a conference-ending volleyball match at Moses Lake.

Kristina McAuley totaled 15 kills and 21 digs for the Sasquatch, who entered the night tied for first place with Columbia Basin in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

Kate Antolick added 11 kills and three blocks, and JoEne Heimbigner 37 assists for CCS.

The NWAACC championships are Nov. 20-22 at Bellevue.

Men’s basketball

Nico Harrison scored 23 points, including 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range, as the Spokane-based NBC Thunder defeated Illinois 86-83 in an exhibition game at Champaign, Ill.

Tyrone McDaniel added 19 points and three steals for the Thunder (4-4), who shot 12 of 25 from long range. Kevin Turner scored 25 for the Illini.

Football

Three University of Idaho football players have been honored as first-team all-Big West Conference selections by Football News. Senior defensive tackle Tim Wilson (Seattle), who has a team-best nine quarterback sacks, is joined on the first team by junior Ryan Skinner (Lewiston) and sophomore Bryson Gardner (Barstow, Calif.)

With two games to play, Wilson has 23 sacks totaling 175 yards in losses. He is tied for fourth on the Idaho all-time list. He also has 21 career tackles for loss (six this fall), which amount to 61 yards in losses.

Skinner exploded onto the scene at linebacker. He leads the Vandals with 98 tackles in nine games. He also has a team-best 10 tackles for loss and three fumble recoveries. He played sparingly his first two seasons and has a career total of 122 tackles.

Gardner, who as a sophomore is a two-year starter at free safety, has four interceptions this fall and 65 tackles - second-best on the team. He was an honorable mention allBig West selection last year.
