Huskies Lose 2 Offensive Starters Heading Into Matchup With Bruins
The University of Washington Huskies will have to play their biggest game of the season Saturday at UCLA without starting tight end Cam Cleeland, who won’t make the trip after suffering a sprained knee against Oregon.
Starting fullback Pat Conniff, who suffered a concussion against Oregon, also will not make the trip to play a game the Huskies have to win to go to the Rose Bowl.
The loss of Cleeland will be hard to overcome. The senior is a solid blocker and tied for third on the team in receptions with 15 for 224 yards. Cleeland will be replaced in the starting lineup by senior Jeremy Brigham, who has caught three passes this season, including one for a touchdown at Arizona.
“It’s tough to lose Cam,” said quarterback Brock Huard, who pronounced himself ready to go after another day of full practice.
Huard said the sprained ankle that held him out of the loss to Oregon “feels pretty good. I’ll be fine. There’s nothing to worry about.”
