Kafelnikov Defeats Chang

Compiled From Wire Services

Michael Chang was whipped by Yevgeny Kafelnikov 6-3, 6-0 in the ATP World Championship in Hanover, Germany, yet because of the round-robin format, the world’s No. 2 player will get another chance at survival.

He must beat Jonas Bjorkman to qualify for the semifinals.

Pete Sampras, who is 1-1 after losing to Carlos Moya and beating Greg Rusedski, must defeat Patrick Rafter (2-0) today to reach the semis.

Anke Huber earned a tough victory over Lisa Raymond in the second round of the Advanta Championships in Villanova, Pa., setting the 16-player field in next week’s season-ending Chase Championships.

Raymond’s loss in three sets meant that Brenda Schultz-McCarthy and Sabine Appelmans secured the final two spots for the $2 million tournament at Madison Square Garden.
