Alice ‘Sue’ Morse Spokane

Visitation for Alice L. “Sue” Morse, 88, will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Morse, who was born in North Dakota, died Monday.

She graduated in 1927 from Westby (Mont.) High School and went through nurses training in Great Falls, Mont.

She did post-graduate study in pediatrics at Michail Reese Hospital in Chicago.

In 1933, she married Allen Morse in Great Falls and they lived for several years in Butte, Mont., where she worked as a nurse.

They moved to Coeur d’Alene, where they owned a radio repair and electrical shop and also owned and operated a dairy farm on the Rathdrum Prairie.

Upon moving to Spokane in 1961, she retired and became a homemaker.

Mrs. Morse was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, David Morse of Spokane; a daughter, Janette Franta of Gig Harbor, Wash.; a brother, Lewis Rice of Altamont Springs, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Eastern Washington Chapter.

Margaret Gross Spokane

No service will be held for Margaret S. Gross, 82, at her request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gross, who was born Moorehead, Minn., died Monday.

She owned and operated Gross Jewelry in Fargo, N.D., with her husband, Paul.

Mrs. Gross moved to Spokane 10 years ago.

Her husband died in 1983.

Survivors include two brothers, Walter Jensen of Bismarck, N.D., and William Jensen of Cross Lake, Minn.

Lyle Clark Spokane

Memorial service for Lyle Joseph Clark, 79, is set for 11 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Clark, who was born in Bemidji, Minn., died Tuesday.

He was a painting contractor and owned A & F Painting Co.

Mr. Clark was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane; a son, Dave Clark of Spokane; three daughters, Kathy Steblaj and Linda Warner-Brown, both of Spokane, and Shannon Clark of Moscow, Idaho; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Thomas Mackay Spokane

Memorial service for Thomas A. Mackay, 62, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Mackay, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Monday.

He served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War.

Mr. Mackay was a mechanic and owned and operated his own business in Spokane.

He was a car club member.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy; a son, Gary Mackay of Veradale; a daughter, Cindy Mackay of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

Don Cole St. John, Wash.

Memorial service for Don Cole, 71, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in St. John. Private inurnment will follow at St. John Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Rosalia, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Cole, a lifetime resident of St. John, died Tuesday.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

Mr. Cole worked on the family farm until his retirement.

He was a member of the St. John Golf and Country Club, Men’s League, St. John Gun Club and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife since 1944, Lyla; a son, Bob Cole of St. John; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Golf and Country Club.

Fred Hibbs Spokane

No service will be held for Fred E. Hibbs, 70, at his request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Hibbs, a resident of Spokane for 38 years, died Saturday.

He was born in Miami and graduated from Spokane Community College.

Mr. Hibbs served nine years in the Air Force.

He worked as a nurse and nursing supervisor for more than 15 years at Interlake School.

Mr. Hibbs was a member of the Catholic Church and Camping World.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Francis; three sons, Ronald and Kenneth Hibbs, both of Spokane, and Jim Money of Fresno, Calif.; three daughters, Tayler Hudson and Sue McNamara, both of Spokane, and Marilyn Sailor of Prather, Calif.; two brothers, Charles Hibbs of Westport, Wash., and Robert Hibbs of Citra, Fla.; three sisters, Rosalee Hibbs and Eva Cranston, both of Citra, Fla., and Lilli Parish of Vero Beach, Fla., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rose (Aubuchon) Burch Spokane

Funeral Mass for Rose A. (Aubuchon) Burch, 73, will be at 4 p.m. today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Burch, who was born in New Florence, Mo., died Tuesday.

She graduated from Montesano High School and worked for the Army as a civilian retail supervisor at Fort Lewis.

Mrs. Burch retired in 1977 and moved to Spokane a year later.

She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Almer; a daughter, Karman Daniel of Colbert; two sisters, Joyce Tagman and Mary Saari, both of Olympia; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the Ronald McDonald House of Spokane.

Beverly Fyfe Spokane

Service for Beverly Jean Fyfe, 68, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Private burial will follow. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Fyfe, who was born in Bell Gardens, Calif., died Tuesday.

She graduated from Southgate High School and studied at the Disney School of Art in Los Angeles.

Mrs. Fyfe assisted her husband, Donald Fyfe, in publishing a weekly newspaper in Rockford, The Standard Register, for 16 years.

She was also a retired employee of Lawton Printing and Ross Printing, both in Spokane.

Mrs. Fyfe was a member of the Bookbinders Union of Spokane, the Sundance Golf Club and the Downriver Women’s Golf Club.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; a daughter, Peggy Brooks of Colville; a son, Donald Fyfe at the home; and a brother, Douglas Suggs of Lake Elsinore, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Richard Scarpelli Cottage Grove, Ore.

Memorial Mass for Richard Louis Scarpelli, 57, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, in Cottage Grove. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. Englands Funeral Chapel in Euguene, Ore., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Scarpelli, who was born in Walla Walla, died Tuesday.

In 1961 he moved to Spokane, where he operated his own barber shop for 20 years.

He married Sharon Zahrowski in Spokane in 1973 .

In 1983 Mr. Scarpelli moved to Cottage Grove, where he and his wife operated a franchise with 7-Eleven. In 1993 the store became Scarpelli’s Short Stop.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kris Clark of Seattle; a son, Mike Scarpelli of Cottage Grove; a brother, Don Scarpelli of Eugene and two sisters, VaLena Curran of Spokane and LaVelle Vandenburg of Portland.

Nick Scherling Post Falls

Service for Nick R. Scherling, 13, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Nick died Monday in a bicycle-automobile accident.

He was born in Coeur d’Alene and attended Post Falls Middle School.

He also was a Boy Scout with Troop 250.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Mark and Denise Scherling of Post Falls; his mother, Jana Scherling of Spokane; a stepsister, Nichole Gunia at home; a stepbrother, Steven Emery, at home; a half-brother, Daniel Scherling, at home; and his grandparents, Ralph and Janet Wilcox of Hay, Wash., Henry Scherling of Florida, and Virginia Scherling of Coeur d’Alene.

Charles Kronenberg Spokane

Memorial service for Charles D. Kronenberg, 90, will be at 2 p.m. today at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Kronenberg died Sunday.

He graduated from North Central High School.

Mr. Kronenberg worked from 1922 to 1953 for the family-owned Kronenberg Shoe Shop. He then went to work for Whites Boots.

He retired in 1967.

Mr. Kronenberg was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

His wife of 59 years, Ariel Kronenberg, died in 1995.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

John Lefors Spokane

No service will be held for John H. Lefors, 72, at his request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Grants Pass, Ore., Mr. Lefors died Oct. 28.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and was active in sailing in Portland.

He worked as a mechanical engineer in electronics for Minneapolis Honeywell Corp.

Mr. Lefors was a commodore of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Portland before retiring and returning to Spokane 15 years ago.

There are no surviving family members.

Evelyn Kirk Spokane

No service will be held for Evelyn Marie Kirk, 63, at her request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kirk, a 40-year Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

She ran a daycare business in Spokane for almost 20 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Colleen Moscatelli and Rebecca Kirk, both of Spokane, and Christine Hoover of Bend, Ore.; a son, Robert Langwell of Spokane; her mother, Bernice Eastman of Hot Springs, Mont.; two brothers, Frank and Vern Knapp, both of Hot Springs; a sister, Donna Washburn of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.
