Gold’s Slide Causes Mine Closure

Associated Press

A 25 percent decline in gold prices in the past year has caused an early end to the mining season at Stibnite.

With gold hovering at about $310 an ounce, compared with $390 at this time last year, Simon Bell, of Dakota Mining Corp., said the company has mothballed the operation.

Whether mining will resume next summer depends on economics.
