Ecumenical Service Will Be At St. Aloysius

“Awaken Our Hearts” is the theme of this year’s Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone, at 10 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Bishop Walton Mize of Spokane’s Christ Holy Sanctified Church, will be the featured speaker.

The service is sponsored by the Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries, which represents Roman Catholic, American Baptist, African Methodist Episcopal, Disciples of Christ, Episcopal, Lutheran, Orthodox, Presbyterian, Reorganized Latter Day Saints, Unitarian Universalist, United Church of Christ and United Methodist churches.

Those attending the Thanksgiving service are asked to bring canned food for the Spokane Food Bank. Any monetary donations received will also be given to the food bank.

Festival begins Saturday

The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside, will host its annual Advent Festival this weekend.

The festival - 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday - will feature various Christmas and Advent items to be raffled and auctioned.

Raffle items include a $1,000 travel certificate, a TV, family Bible and $100 cash. Raffle tickets are $1.

Up for silent auction are Christmas items, Nativity scenes, dinner with Bishop William Skylstad, gift certificates to a variety of restaurants, wine, room-size rugs, games, baskets and jewelry. The auction closes on Sunday.

Lunch will be available from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Festival proceeds will benefit the cathedral’s general fund and its Social Concerns program, which provides help for the poor, including emergency utility assistance.

Miniconference center ready

Clare Center, a Place of Peace, a new miniconference and retreat center, has recently been completed at 4624 E. Jamieson Road on Moran Prairie.

The center, maintained by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, includes four meeting rooms, kitchen facilities, a meditation room, nature trails and lodging for 13 people.

Women’s retreat today

The Dorcas Ministry will hold a women’s retreat from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Solid Rock Christian Center, 3002 E. Bridgeport.

The program, “Go in Peace,” will focus on nurturing and healing. Featured speakers will be the Rev. Cynthia Steele, “Jonnie” Jones, Edie Sevy and Mary McDowell.

Cost is $10. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch. Beverages will be provided.

Baha’i holy days near

Day of the Covenant, in remembrance of the Covenant of the Baha’i Faith, will be observed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the homes of various members.

Baha’i members around the world will concentrate on the unifying forces of the Baha’i writings and covenant.

Next Friday, Baha’i members will observe the anniversary of the passing of Abdu’l-Baha, son of Baha’u’llah, prophet and founder of the Baha’i Faith. These observances will also be in the homes of members beginning at 1 a.m.
