Watts Lifts UW

Associated Press

Donald Watts is tired of having to hit game-winning 3-pointers.

He did so for the second time in as many weeks on Sunday afternoon, lifting Washington to a 68-65 overtime victory over St. Mary’s.

“It’s become a habit,” Watts said. “I don’t want it to make it too much of a habit. We need to put some games away earlier.”

Watts hit a 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds left in regulation to take the game into overtime and then hit another with 28.3 seconds remaining to give UW the win.

On Nov. 11 Washington won an exhibition game over Brewster Packing, an AAU team, 88-87, after Watts hit a turnaround 3-pointer with one second left.

“I’d rather not have it come down to a final shot, but if it does I’m glad we have Donald to take it,” Washington’s Todd MacCulloch said.

Watts scored 21 points for Washington (1-0) and MacCulloch added 20 points and 14 rebounds.

David Sivulich scored 16 points for St. Mary’s (1-1), with Eric Schraeder adding 14 points and Brad Millard 13. Schraeder also grabbed 10 rebounds.
