Emma Gibbons Spokane

Emma Gibbons celebrated her 100th birthday on Thanksgiving. She was born Nov. 27, 1897, in Minnesota.

Mrs. Gibbons is a great Cougar fan, said a spokesman at Colonial Care, where she now lives. Her great-nephew, Todd Nelson, a linebacker for the Washington State University football team, presented her with a football, signed by all of his teammates.

Mrs. Gibbons remembers when women began to drive, “and it was something,” she said.

She married Lee Gibbons in 1925. He died in 1950. They were the parents of the late Tommy Gibbons.

Before moving to Spokane in 1936, Mrs. Gibbons worked for the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce.

She’s a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and plays bingo every day.
